Academics

The curriculum at SLHS will include many opportunities for students to explore areas of interest. This will be accomplished in variety of ways.

The school is organized in Learning Communities which are designed to enhance the curriculum and student performance by linking teaching and learning to broad career clusters. This “school within a school” concept establishes smaller groups of students and teachers providing more opportunities for better relationships among students, parents and teachers.

Incoming ninth graders explore career opportunities through the selection of a major area of study. Courses and instruction will align with the various majors allowing students the opportunity to explore potential career paths.

The curriculum provides students with the opportunity to stretch and grow by offering a variety of Advanced Placement courses. We also work with PHCC to ensure students have the opportunity to enroll in Dual Enrollment courses. Both of these options allow students the chance to earn college credit while in high school.

To ensure we meet the needs of all students, courses are offered in a variety of vocational areas, as well as in the arts, music and world languages.
